It’s only been very recently that I’ve accepted that a diesel engine belongs in anything other than an HGV or a taxi. I’ve had to concede that maybe it’s not entirely realistic to want a petrol V8 in every car I drive, and there are now some very convincing diesel lumps around. They don’t sing like a good petrol lump, but the big wodge of torque most have really does go a very long way to compensate.
Spurred by the story of our ride in Steve McQueen's Jaguar XKSS, Richard Haight felt inclined to chime in with the fact that he not only raced motorcycles with (and against) McQueen, but knew him all the way until the King of Cool's death. PETROL PRICES at the pumps could plunge by almost 4p over the next two weeks, the RAC predicted today. But the reduction, and a forecast 2p dip in diesel, will only happen if other retailers follow the supermarkets' lead in dropping prices, the RAC added. It said that the wholesale price of petrol had now reached its lowest price since the beginning of December 2012.
